A web platform called “Elysium” was utilized by the pedophile network, which existed since the end of 2016 and was accessible only through the Darknet, a hidden part of the Internet uncatalogued by search engines. The site was used to facilitate the exchange of videos and images of children, as young as toddler age, being physically and sexually abused. According to German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle: “Investigators said the site had been in operation since the end of 2016 and that it was accessible only via the darknet, a part of the World Wide Web that cannot be found using conventional search engines but requires the use of encrypting software.” According to the authorities in Frankfurt, there were also recordings of “the most serious sexual abuse of children”, such as violence against children and abuse of “the youngest.”. The platform was also used to schedule appointments to exploit and abuse children. Most of the suspects were arrested in the countries of Germany and Austria. A German police spokesman said that Dutch authorities were also involved in the case: “We are certainly expecting things that are important to the Netherlands, but at the moment it is not yet possible to indicate to what extent.” Surprisingly, the network of nearly 90,000 individuals is not the largest bust in history, as another online Darknet pedophile platform called Playpen was dismantled earlier this year, and 58-year-old American Steven Chase sentenced to 30-years in federal prison. Chase was held responsible for the existence of Playpen, a child pornography network established in 2014, which had 150,000 active pedophiles on the site. The Playpen case was extremely controversial, as the U.S. Department of Justice acknowledged in court filings that the FBI actually operated the site, themselves, from Feb. 20 to March 4, 2015. Moreover, in a move that left many in dismay, the Department of Justice filed a motion in Washington State federal court to dismiss an indictment against the child porn site. According to a report in Wired: It wasn’t for lack of evidence; it was because the FBI didn’t want to disclose details of a hacking tool to the defense as part of discovery. Evidence in United States v. Jay Michaud hinged at least in part on information federal investigators had gathered by exploiting a vulnerability in the Tor anonymity network. “Because the government remains unwilling to disclose certain discovery related to the FBI’s deployment of a ‘Network Investigative Technique’ (‘NIT’) as part of its investigation into the Playpen child pornography site, the government has no choice but to seek dismissal of the indictment,” federal prosecutor Annette Hayes wrote in the court filing on Friday. The federal prosecutor pointed out that the DoJ’s work to resist disclosing the NIT was part of “an effort to balance the many competing interests that are at play when sensitive law enforcement technology becomes the subject of a request for criminal discovery.” To make a long story short, the feds decided to let an alleged child pornographer go to keep secret, and illegal, the methods they use to catch criminals on the dark web. In regard to the “Elysium” network, public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt said that the suspected operator of the site, a 39-year-old man from the central German state of Hesse, had already been arrested on June 12. The suspected operator of the platform was arrested after his apartment was searched and the server seized, according to DW. Numerous other suspects have also been arrested, according to police officials. German and Austrian police said they will hold a press conference on Friday to provide further details about the investigation. In a 91-page decision, Judge James Boasberg ruled that the federal permits authorizing the pipeline to cross the Missouri River just upstream of the Standing Rock reservation, which were hastily issued by the Trump administration just days after the inauguration, violated the law in certain critical respects. The Court did not determine whether pipeline operations should be shut off and has requested additional briefing on the subject and a status conference next week. The federal judge wrote, “the Court agrees that [the Corps] did not adequately consider the impacts of an oil spill on fishing rights, hunting rights, or environmental justice, or the degree to which the pipeline’s effects are likely to be highly controversial.” “This is a major victory for the Tribe and we commend the courts for upholding the law and doing the right thing,” said Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault II. “The previous administration painstakingly considered the impacts of this pipeline, and President Trump hastily dismissed these careful environmental considerations in favor of political and personal interests. We applaud the courts for protecting our laws and regulations from undue political influence, and will ask the Court to shut down pipeline operations immediately.” “This decision marks an important turning point. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is deeply concerned about the construction of the major crude-oil pipeline that passes through its ancestral lands. What are the key legal issues in this case? The motion for summary judgment, filed on Feb. 14, asked the Judge to rule on major legal questions that have not yet been resolved during this case, including whether National Environmental Policy Act requirements have been met and whether the Corps’ actions violate the Tribe’s Treaty rights. Our lawsuit raises three critical claims, and asks the court to throw out the federal approvals. First, the law requires a full, transparent and public environmental review for any federal action that has “significant” environmental effects. These environmental reviews have been prepared for decisions as mundane as off-leash dog areas and allowing jet skis in parks. The idea that a 30-inch crude-oil pipeline under one of the most economically and culturally important waterways in the nation isn’t significant enough to warrant an environmental review is absurd. Second, the history of the U.S. government’s broken promises to the Sioux people is long and tragic. No one disputes that the Tribe has important Treaty rights that guarantee the integrity of its reservation. This means that the federal government and its agencies cannot take any federal action that harms the Standing Rock reservation or the water in the Missouri River on which the people of Standing Rock depend. The Obama administration made a carefully considered decision that these Treaty rights needed to be respected in connection with an oil pipeline immediately upstream of the reservation. The Trump administration ignored that advice, and acted as if the Tribe does not exist. And finally, there are limits on the extent to which one administration can reverse the decisions of its predecessor. While federal agencies can change their minds about matters of policy, the courts will set aside reversals that are not fully justified and explained. From The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Setting The Record Straight. On Feb. 23, the Tribe issued a report on engagement on the Dakota Access Pipeline. Selected excerpts from Setting The Record Straight: The Tribe was fully engaged from the beginning. The Tribe contacted the Army Corps, even before DAPL applied for permits, to express its deep concerns about the pipeline in this location and its effect on the Tribe’s treaty rights and cultural sites. (The full story.) In September 2014, the Tribe made its overwhelming objection to the proposal clear to DAPL representatives, and promised to fight them if they proceeded in the proposed location. A recording of what was said: (Transcript) The Corps did not hold 389 meetings with Tribes. A significant portion of that '389' number were requests from Tribes to the Corps seeking information about the proposed pipeline and the Corps’ process for reviewing it, raising concerns and objections, and requesting meetings to discuss those concerns—many of which were ignored by the Corps. The Tribe participated fully in the NEPA process. The Tribe submitted three lengthy sets of technical and legal comments on the December 2015 draft EA, comprising hundreds of pages, raising objections and seeking better analysis of spill risks and the Tribe’s treaty rights. The Tribe sought to protect its rights when no one else would. The Tribe refused to get out of DAPL’s way and allow them to do something the Tribe thought was illegal and immoral. Neither the Corps nor DAPL ever explained why, if the pipeline was so safe, they didn’t select the alternative route and cross the Missouri River north of Bismarck where the river is narrower. The Corps relied on flawed, one-sided analysis prepared by DAPL—and never subjected to any independent review—minimizing the risks of oil spill, and ignored the Tribe’s treaty rights to water, fishing, and hunting. In December 2016, the Corps correctly found that those issues needed further consideration through an EIS process. On his second full day in office, the Trump administration overruled the Corps and ordered the permits to be granted. Standing Rock Chairman Archambault was on his way to meet with the White House when the easement was issued—no one from the Trump administration ever talked to a representative of the Tribe before ordering the project to go forward. Timeline of Events: July 27, 2016 The Tribe files a lawsuit in federal district court in Washington, D.C., where it was assigned to U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg. August 4, 2016 The Tribe asks the Court for a preliminary injunction since the pipeline is already under construction and would be finished before the case could be formally decided. August 24, 2016 Judge Boasberg holds a hearing on the motion in Washington, D.C. Over 500 people participated in an action outside the federal courthouse in support of the Tribe. The Judge indicated that he would rule in roughly two weeks. Sept. 3, 2016 While the parties are awaiting the Court’s decision, Dakota Access bulldozed an area of the pipeline corridor filled with Tribal sacred sites and burials that had been identified to the Court just the previous day. Demonstrators trying to prevent the destruction of the sacred site were pepper sprayed and attacked by guard dogs (as documented by Amy Goodman and her Democracy Now camera crew.) On Sept. 4, the Tribe files an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order to block the construction until a decision is reached on the injunction motion. Sept. 6, 2016 Judge Boasberg holds a hearing on the emergency motion for a temporary restraining order. The Judge issues a temporary restraining order for the pipeline corridor nearest the Missouri River but declines to halt construction on the portion of the pipeline route that had recently been identified as sacred tribal burial ground. Sept. 9, 2016 The Court denies the Tribe’s motion for a preliminary injunction. Minutes later, three federal agencies—The Department of Justice, Department of the Army and Department of the Interior—issue a joint statement announcing that the federal agencies will halt any additional permitting and reconsider its past permits of the project. The statement states that while it appreciates the Court’s review, the government believes that the Tribe has raised some important issues worthy of additional consideration. It also called for a national review of the government’s approach to Tribal consultation for major fossil fuel projects. Sept. 12, 2016 After filing an appeal of the District Court’s decision with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the Tribe files a request for an injunction pending appeal. The motion asks the Court to make the Government’s request for a voluntary pause on construction within 20 miles of Lake Oahe an enforceable requirement while the appeal process goes forward. Sept. 16, 2016 The Court issues an order issuing an “administrative injunction … to give the court sufficient opportunity to consider the emergency motion for injunction pending appeal.” The court directed “that Dakota Access LLC be enjoined pending further order of the court from construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline for 20 miles on both sides of the Missouri River at Lake Oahe.” Oct. 5, 2016 Oral arguments on the emergency motion for injunction are held at the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. A ruling was not issued, keeping the temporary halt to construction in place until the Court issues a decision. Oct. 9, 2016 The D.C. Circuit issues a ruling denying the tribe’s request for an injunction pending appeal but emphasizes that it hoped that the “spirit of Section 106 [of the National Historic Preservation Act] may yet prevail” as the Court did not have the last word, and decisions still need to be made at the permit crossing at Lake Oahe. Both the appeal and the district court litigation will proceed, but the injunction covering work in the pipeline corridor has ceased. Oct. 10, 2016 The Department of Justice, Department of the Army and Department of the Interior issue a joint statement following the court order which says in part: “The Army continues to review issues raised by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other Tribal nations and their members and hopes to conclude its ongoing review soon. In the interim, the Army will not authorize constructing the Dakota Access Pipeline on Corps land bordering or under Lake Oahe. We repeat our request that the pipeline company voluntarily pause all construction activity within 20 miles east or west of Lake Oahe.” Dakota Access has forcefully rejected the Government’s request for a voluntary pause, and continues to pursue construction ever closer to the Missouri River and the camps of protesters. Oct. 20, 2016 The Army Corps conducts a site visit to the area bulldozed over Labor Day to determine whether Dakota Access violated federal law by knowingly damaging a tribal sacred site. Under federal law, if Dakota Access is found to have knowingly damaged a historic or cultural resource with the intent of sidestepping the National Historic Preservation Act, the Corps cannot issue the easement. No determination has been finalized. Oct. 24, 2016 As confrontations between Tribal water protectors and an increasingly militarized construction effort heat up, Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault II calls on the Department of Justice to conduct an investigation into heavy-handed police tactics and violations of civil rights. Nov. 2, 2016 Following comments from President Obama in an interview on Nov. 1, Tribal Chairman Dave Archambault II issues a statement, saying in part, “While the Army Corps of Engineers is examining this issue we call on the Administration and the Corps to issue an immediate ‘stop work order’ on the Dakota Access Pipeline.” Read the Tribe's full statement. “Earthjustice is honored to represent the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in court as it seeks to protect its people’s sacred lands and water from the Dakota Access pipeline,” said Trip Van Noppen, president of Earthjustice, also in response to President Obama's Nov. 1 remarks. “We also want to reiterate the Chairman’s call for a full environmental impact statement. Nov. 3, 2016 An independent expert hired by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Richard Kuprewicz of Accufacts, Inc., a consulting firm that advises government agencies and industry about pipelines) finds that the government’s environmental assessment of the Dakota Access pipeline’s environmental impact was inadequate. In light of Kuprewicz’s report and the deficiencies contained in the environmental assessment, Tribe Chairman Archambault II asked for the government to reconsider its early decisions and disallow the easement for the pipeline crossing. Nov. 15, 2016 Energy Transfer Partners, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline files a lawsuit charging the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers has no right to delay easement to pipeline construction. Nov. 21, 2016 The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe issues a statement calling on President Obama to deny easement, investigate pipeline safety and protect tribal sovereignty. Read the Tribe's statement. Nov. 25, 2016 Federal officials announce that a decision had been made to close access to the entire area north of the Cannonball River including the Standing Rock protest campsite at Oceti Sakowin. Yes, of course it is possible that Kim Dotcom’s shocking claim that he knew Seth Rich and was involved in his giving DNC emails to WikiLeaks will fail to deliver; there are a number of reasons to remain skeptical of this and no doubt the shills and brainwashed establishment loyalists in the comments section of wherever you found this article will be happy to inform you of each one of them. Since there is no dearth of establishment puppets scrambling to preemptively dismiss Dotcom’s claims, I am not interested in spending any more time on the possibility of his claims being false here. I am interested in drawing attention to what it will mean if he is telling the truth. In a tweet that as of this writing has received far less attention than his more recent Twitter announcements, Dotcom posted a link to a Bloomberg article from May 2015 titled, “Kim Dotcom: Julian Assange Will Be Hillary Clinton’s Worst Nightmare in 2016,” with the question “How do you think I knew?” Well, how did he know? Why would a notorious rogue tech entrepreneur born in Germany and living in New Zealand have known a DNC data analyst born in Nebraska and living in DC? If you believe the establishment narrative that Russian hackers were responsible for the release of DNC emails by WikiLeaks in July of last year, this will look like a nonsensical question to be dismissed with a hearty Smug Liberal Scoff™. If however you are open to the possibility that your government is lying to you with the help of the mass media, it’s not hard to imagine how a man with a tech background who is frustrated with the manipulations of the Democratic establishment might seek out the help of a powerful, well-connected internet sage in figuring out how best to use the documents he had access to for shedding the light of truth on a profoundly corrupt organization. After all, it’s not like Dotcom had made a secret of his vendetta against Hillary Clinton, tweeting way back in December of 2014 that he planned to become her “worst nightmare” in the 2016 election cycle. If Rich wanted someone he could trust to help shed light on the DNC’s charter-violating collusion against Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries instead of turning him in to the authorities, Dotcom was the safest bet on earth. Because he was immersed in both the tech world and Democratic politics, there’s no reason to believe that Rich wasn’t aware of Dotcom’s public vendetta. This is of course speculation, but it is speculation informed by logic and empathy. Try it: imagine what you would do if you were in Rich’s shoes. If you loved America as much as the comments on his Reddit account prove he did and you became aware that its democratic process was being actively subverted from within. If you were just a mid-level staffer with little money and no power or influence, but access to information that could blow the whole thing open. What would you do? Who would you turn to? Your bosses? The police? The media who’d consistently been either ignoring or slandering Sanders throughout his entire campaign? Or would you seek out help from someone of great means and influence who you could be sure of what side his bread was buttered on? Kim Dotcom’s personal vendetta has been against Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and the Democratic party in general, but if what he’s saying proves to be true it will have implications that stretch out much, much further than mere partisan politics. The American people have had their minds and emotions relentlessly pummelled with xenophobic Russia conspiracy theories for more than half a year now, being told over and over and over again every single day that a vicious comic book supervillain-like dictator has infiltrated the highest levels of their government with the intent of spreading fascism from sea to shining sea, and it all rests on the initial claim that Russian hackers stole Democratic party emails and gave them to WikiLeaks. What will happen if this all comes crashing down? If Kim Dotcom can show the world that Seth Rich was the one who leaked those documents? What will happen if the carpet is ripped out from underneath this massive house of cards that the American deep state has been blasting the public in the face with using its Washington pawns and the mass media? If mainstream America realizes that all of the voices of authority that they’ve placed their trust in have been lying to their faces? If it becomes clear that powerful elites arranged for the assassination of Seth Rich, a true American hero who loved his country far more than it deserved? My prediction is that, if this happens, mainstream America will stop dead in its tracks. The world won’t make sense anymore. Worldviews will flounder, falter, and crumble to the floor. The establishment propaganda machine might make a few feeble attempts to reel people back into the narrative, perhaps trying to paint Rich as a Russian agent which will be easily disproven by his Reddit account (and could be why someone edited out his identifying information therein, come to think of it). There will be no recovering from this. Trust in establishment propaganda, the only thing holding America’s oligarchic power structures in place, will die. And then miracles can happen. Reality will have some space to get a word in edgewise. If we push really hard when and if this opportunity presents itself, we could wake all of mainstream America up to the reality of what’s been happening in their country. We could halt the insane foreign policy and war-for-profit bloodbaths all over the world, the ecocidal environmental policies, the soul-crushing Walmart economy, the predatory neoliberal trade agreements, the legalized bribery and systemic corruption which keeps democracy from existing in America, because people will no longer be listening to the establishment propaganda outlets telling them that those things are perfectly normal and unavoidable. With belief in the official narratives of America’s unelected power establishment purged fully from their minds, the American people will at long last have control of the direction that their nation moves in, and they can start building a system that works for them instead of for a few parasitic oligarchs. So please be ready. Please be alert. If this opening presents itself, we all need to be prepared to leap into action and shove as much truth as we possibly can into it right away, kill the propaganda machine, and purge the lies that have indoctrinated mainstream America once and for all. The study found that children born to mothers who took antidepressants during pregnancy had an 81% increased odds of developing autism. The researchers also found that children born to women who took antidepressants before pregnancy had a 77% likelihood of developing autism. As part of the analysis, French researchers examined six studies with a total cohort population of 117,737 participants and compared them with people without autism. According to the analysis, up to 15% of women experience depression during pregnancy. The researchers also noted that antidepressant-use among pregnant women around the world showed an upswing in the last few years. Women with untreated depression were at an increased risk of developing complications including diabetes and hypertension, the researchers added. However, outside expert Carol Povey cautioned that pregnant women should not immediately stop antidepressant treatment. Povey is the current director of the National Autistic Society’s Centre for Autism. “We urge people not to jump to conclusions about this study, which brings together findings from previous research. It’s therefore vital that no-one bases any decisions about their care on these findings alone. Any mothers-to-be who are concerned about the best treatment for depression should discuss this with their doctor,” Povey said in an article in DailyMail.co.uk. The findings were published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. More studies link antidepressants to autism onset The recent findings coincide with a number of previous studies that demonstrate a link between antidepressant treatment and autism onset. A 2015 study revealed that taking serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) during pregnancy increased the risk of autism in children. To assess this, researchers pooled data from the Quebec Pregnancy Cohort and found that SSRI intake during the second and/or third trimester of pregnancy was associated with the onset of autism in unborn children. “Some classes of antidepressants work by inhibiting serotonin (SSRIs and some other antidepressant classes), which will have a negative impact on the ability of the brain to fully develop and adapt in utero,” said lead researcher Prof. Anick Bérard in MedicalNewsToday.com. The findings were published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. Another study revealed that prenatal exposure to antidepressants may raise the odds of autism. To assess this, researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed data of more than 5,400 children. The study revealed that autism spectrum disorder was more common among children born to mothers who took antidepressants during pregnancy compared with the control group. The results were published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry. A 2013 study also found that in utero exposure to both SSRIs and non-selective monoamine reuptake inhibitors was tied to autism onset in children. However, researchers said the study did not show a causal relationship between antidepressant treatment and autism. Further studies are needed to verify the findings, the researchers wrote in BMJ. Furthermore, a 2011 study also showed that prenatal exposure to SSRIs may lead to the development of autism in children. To carry out the study, researchers pooled data from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in North Carolina. According to the study, maternal depression was linked to higher risk of autism in childrren. However, paternal depression did not appear to increase the risk. The study also revealed that children born to mothers who took serotonin reuptake inhibitors at one year before delivery were twice as likely to develop autism. The risk of autism onset was more pronounced when the mothers took SSRIs during the first trimester of pregnancy, the researchers said. The findings were published in the Archives of General Psychiatry.
